Premenstrual symptoms — bloating, fatigue, mood changes, breast tenderness and digestive discomfort in the days before your period — are common, and for many people the bloating and digestive component in particular responds well to supportive care.
What colonic hydrotherapy does
Our focus is specifically on the bloating, water retention and digestive sluggishness that often accompany PMS, not on the hormonal pattern that drives the broader cycle of symptoms. An alkalising greens infusion is the option most clients choose alongside a PMS-focused session, aimed at rehydration and general mineral support.
Timing your session
There is no reason to avoid colonic hydrotherapy during menstruation, so it comes down to personal preference whether you’d rather book during your period or just before/after it if PMS bloating is your main concern.
What your therapist checks before your session
PMS that dominates a fortnight of every month is worth working on properly, and that work is naturopathic: the cycle itself, along with the sleep, blood sugar, stress and nutrient picture sitting underneath it. The naturopaths here do that, and can arrange hormone or thyroid pathology where it helps, through a private laboratory, paid directly to the lab. A colonic addresses the bloating end of it and nothing further, so it is a poor substitute for the wider conversation.
Severe symptoms with intense mood changes may be premenstrual dysphoric disorder, which needs its own diagnosis and treatment. Persistent pelvic pain, unusually heavy bleeding, or pain outside your normal pattern should be assessed promptly. In either case we will refer you to your GP with a letter of findings and recommendations, and name a gynaecologist we rate where we have one.
What to expect
We’ll ask where you are in your cycle during pre-session screening, mainly so we can tailor pressure and comfort accordingly — some clients find they’re more sensitive around their period.

Frequently asked questions
Can I have a colonic during my period?
Yes — there is no reason to avoid it during your period, so it comes down to personal preference and comfort. Some clients prefer to book just before or after their period instead, particularly if PMS bloating is their main concern.
Will colonic hydrotherapy fix hormonal PMS?
We wouldn't claim that. PMS is driven by hormonal changes across the menstrual cycle, and a colonic addresses only the bloating and elimination side of things, not the underlying hormonal pattern. If PMS symptoms are severe or significantly affecting your life, that's worth working on properly — the naturopaths here take on the cycle alongside the sleep, blood sugar and nutrient picture underneath it. Severe mood changes may be PMDD, which needs its own treatment approach, and we'll refer you to your GP with a letter of findings if so.
