There’s a recognised link between gut health and skin — poor elimination and an imbalanced gut microbiome are thought by some practitioners to contribute to congested, dull or breakout-prone skin, though the evidence for how strong this link is varies by individual and by skin condition.
What we mean by skin congestion
We use this term for the general pattern of dull, congested or breakout-prone skin that some clients associate with digestive sluggishness — not as a diagnosis for a specific dermatological condition like acne, eczema or rosacea, which each have their own causes and need their own assessment.
What colonic hydrotherapy does
Clients focused on skin congestion often choose an alkalising greens infusion for rehydration, or a coffee infusion for liver support — the idea being that better elimination and detoxification may, for some people, show up as clearer, less congested skin over time. This is gradual, supportive change, not a quick fix, and works best alongside good hydration, diet and skincare rather than instead of them.
What your therapist checks before your session
Persistent acne, eczema or rosacea deserves proper assessment rather than session after session hoping it shifts. That assessment is naturopathic before it is medical: skin is one of the places gut function, hormones and diet show themselves, and the naturopaths here work on those directly — which is a slower route than a topical steroid or a course of antibiotics, and a more durable one.
Some skin conditions do need targeted medical treatment, and a skin change that is new, spreading or painful needs looking at promptly. Where that is the case we will refer you to your GP with a letter of findings and recommendations, naming a dermatologist we rate if we have one.
What to expect
If skin is your main focus, we’ll usually suggest a short course rather than a single session, alongside a conversation about hydration and diet, since skin cell turnover takes weeks and a single treatment is unlikely to show a visible change.

Frequently asked questions
Will a colonic clear my acne?
We won't promise that. Skin conditions like acne have several possible causes — hormonal, genetic, bacterial, and lifestyle-related — and a colonic addresses only one small piece (elimination and detox support). Persistent skin concerns are worth addressing at the gut, hormone and diet level, which is what the naturopaths here work on. Where a skin change is new, spreading or painful, or needs targeted medical treatment, we'll refer you to your GP with a letter of findings and name a dermatologist we rate.
How long before I'd notice any difference in my skin?
If there's a connection for you, it tends to be gradual rather than immediate — skin cell turnover takes weeks, so a single session is unlikely to show a visible difference. Clients focused on skin usually commit to a short course alongside diet changes rather than expecting a quick fix.
