Candida Overgrowth
Reviewed by our qualified colonic hydrotherapists — naturopaths and allied health practitioners, including ATMS, ANTA and MAA members

Candida is a yeast that’s naturally present in everyone’s gut in small amounts. Candida overgrowth refers to an excessive proliferation of this yeast, which some practitioners link to bloating, fatigue, sugar cravings and skin issues — though it’s a genuinely contested area, and one where we’re careful to be accurate rather than alarmist.
A word on how this gets diagnosed
We want to be upfront: candida overgrowth cannot be reliably diagnosed by visually inspecting what passes through a colonic tube, no matter what a practitioner might claim in the moment. Proper assessment involves stool testing through a reputable lab, ordered by a doctor or qualified naturopath. If a clinic tells you they can “see” candida or parasites during your session and use that to sell you additional treatments, that’s a red flag worth walking away from — not something we do here.
How colonic hydrotherapy may fit in
For clients with a genuine, properly tested candida overgrowth who are working with a naturopath or doctor on a treatment protocol (typically involving diet changes and targeted supplementation), colonic hydrotherapy can be a useful piece of complementary support — helping clear waste and supporting the gut environment, often alongside a probiotic infusion to help rebalance gut flora.
When to see a doctor or naturopath instead
If you suspect candida overgrowth, start with proper testing rather than assuming based on symptoms alone, since many of the associated symptoms (fatigue, bloating, skin issues) overlap with other conditions that need different treatment. A colonic alone won’t resolve genuine candida overgrowth — it works best as one part of a broader, properly guided plan.
What to expect
We’ll ask about any existing diagnosis or treatment plan during screening, and won’t make diagnostic claims about what we observe during your session. See our article on colonic safety for more on how we approach this responsibly.

Frequently asked questions
Can you tell if I have candida overgrowth just by looking at what comes out during a colonic?
No, and we'd encourage you to be sceptical of any clinic that claims otherwise. What passes through a closed-system tube during a colonic can't reliably diagnose candida, parasites or anything else — this is exactly the kind of scare-tactic claim we deliberately avoid making, and you can read more about why in our article on parasite claims in the colonic industry.
How is candida overgrowth actually diagnosed?
Through proper testing ordered by a doctor or naturopath — stool testing, or in some cases blood testing — from a reputable lab, not through visual inspection during a colonic session.
