Confused about the Difference Between a “Closed” & “Open” Colonic System?
It’s the most important question you should ask before booking a colonic — and yet, most first-time clients don’t know!
At Colonics Hydrotherapy in Melbourne, we exclusively use the Closed Colonic System. Here’s why:
Closed Colonic System: Guided, Hygienic & Professionally Supervised
Practitioner-led from start to finish — you’re never left alone or guessing.
A certified therapist inserts the sterile tube, monitors your session, and adjusts water temperature and pressure in real time for comfort and effectiveness.
Abdominal massage is performed during the session to stimulate movement and release stubborn waste.
Alternating warm and cool water helps tone and “exercise” the colon naturally, enhancing results.
A clear viewing tube allows the therapist to observe waste patterns and identify signs of dehydration, undigested food, or potential concerns like liver stress ( green poo) — with referrals made if further testing is needed.
Your comfort and modesty are prioritised. Sessions are private, mess-free, odourless, and conducted in a fully hygienic, closed-loop system.
You’ll receive guidance, education, and dietary recommendations tailored to your needs — making the session not just a treatment, but a learning experience.
Open Colonic System: DIY, Unsupervised & Higher Risk of Mess
Why We Don’t Recommend Open Colonic Systems
At some colonic centres, clients are left entirely on their own — with only a panic buzzer for support. At Colonics Hydrotherapy, we believe this approach is inappropriate during a medical procedure. While open systems may be cheaper to operate, the absence of a practitioner throughout the session compromises both safety and care. We simply don’t believe this is acceptable.
Here’s what you should know about open systems:
-
Self-insertion is required, often with little or no guidance from a trained therapist.
-
Fixed rectal tubes can be awkward and carry a higher risk of injury if inserted incorrectly.
-
You’re left to manage the session alone, with no immediate help if pain, discomfort, or anxiety arise.
-
Waste is released into an open basin beneath the table — increasing the chance of odour, mess, splashback, and potential bacterial exposure.
-
Machines are pre-set on a timer, with no ability to adjust temperature or water pressure based on how your body responds.
-
Overfilling can occur, which may cause abdominal cramping or unnecessary bowel stress — especially in clients with sensitive or compacted colons.
-
No abdominal massage, no temperature cycling, no professional feedback — all of which reduce the treatment’s effectiveness and therapeutic value.
We believe your health deserves better. That’s why we exclusively use the closed system — a safe, hygienic, and practitioner-led approach where your comfort and results are our top priority.
Closed System = Professional Care + Personalised Support
If you’ve only ever experienced an open colonic system, we invite you to discover the difference. Once you’ve had a professional closed colonic session, you’ll understand why so many clients say they’ll never go back.
